A used industrial air compressor should be selected around the plant's actual air demand, pressure requirement, duty cycle and air-quality needs. In woodworking facilities, compressed air often supports CNC equipment, edgebanders, clamps, finishing systems and general pneumatic tools.
Size the system around demand
Estimate required CFM at the pressure your equipment needs, then account for simultaneous use, leaks and future demand. Oversizing and undersizing can both create operating problems.
What to verify before buying
- Compressor type and rated CFM
- Operating pressure range
- Motor horsepower and electrical requirements
- Recorded operating hours when available
- Service history and maintenance intervals
- Oil leaks, unusual noise and vibration
- Controller and safety shutdown operation
- Included dryer, receiver tank, filters or drains
Inspect the complete air system
A compressor is only one component. Confirm whether the purchase includes a dryer, tank, filtration and condensate management, and determine whether those components are sized for the intended flow.
Plan installation
Verify ventilation, electrical service, floor space, service clearances, noise considerations and piping. Have pressure vessels and safety devices inspected as appropriate for your jurisdiction and facility.
Research iBiD equipment
Browse current compressors and sold compressor listings. If the right unit is not available, send iBiD a Machinery Wanted request. Owners can also request a valuation or submit equipment for sale.
Verify capacity, pressure-vessel condition, safety requirements and installation suitability before purchase.
