Used Wood Finishing & Spray Equipment Buying Guide

Used finishing equipment can automate coating application for mouldings, panels, doors and other wood products. The correct system depends on coating chemistry, part geometry, line speed, transfer efficiency and the facility's ventilation and finishing-room requirements.

Define the coating process

Identify the coating, viscosity, required film build, part sizes, profile complexity and target throughput. Determine whether the process needs spraying, roll coating, curtain coating, drying or a complete finishing line.

What to verify

  • Maximum part dimensions and feed speed
  • Number and type of spray guns or applicators
  • Pump, fluid-delivery and filtration equipment
  • Conveyor and overspray-recovery condition
  • Controls, recipes and gun triggering
  • Cleaning/changeover requirements
  • Exhaust, ventilation and fire-protection requirements
  • Electrical and compressed-air requirements

Safety and compliance

Finishing systems can involve flammable or combustible coatings and regulated emissions. Have the intended installation reviewed by qualified professionals and applicable authorities before operation.

Research iBiD machinery

Browse current inventory and sold finishing equipment. If the right system is not available, submit a Machinery Wanted request.

Budget beyond the purchase price

Compare machines on total installed cost, not asking price alone. Budget for loading, rigging, freight, unloading, electrical or compressed-air work, dust or vacuum connections, tooling, software or controls support, commissioning and any repairs identified during inspection. A lower purchase price can become more expensive if removal or installation is unusually complex.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Is the machine currently connected and available for a powered demonstration?
  • What is included with the sale, and what tooling, accessories or support equipment is excluded?
  • Are manuals, backups, software licenses or service records available?
  • Who is responsible for disconnecting, loading and rigging?
  • When must the machine be removed, and are there site-access constraints?

If you own similar equipment, submit it to iBiD for review. If you are still searching, use the Machinery Wanted form to describe the machine and timing you need.
