Used woodworking presses and laminating equipment can support veneer, laminate, panel, door and specialty surface production. Pressure, platen size, heat, cycle control and material-handling requirements should match the adhesive system and product being manufactured.
Define the process
Document the substrate, adhesive, finished panel dimensions, required pressure, temperature and cycle time. Determine whether you need a cold press, hot press, membrane/vacuum press, post-forming equipment or another laminating process.
What to verify
- Platen or working dimensions
- Maximum pressure and pressure uniformity
- Heating system and temperature range when equipped
- Hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses and leakage
- Vacuum system on membrane equipment
- Controls, timers and recipes
- Loading/unloading equipment and daylight opening
- Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and ventilation requirements
Test the full cycle
Cycle the press under representative conditions when possible. Verify even pressure, platen alignment, temperature control and hydraulic or vacuum performance.

Budget beyond the purchase price
Compare machines on total installed cost, not asking price alone. Budget for loading, rigging, freight, unloading, electrical or compressed-air work, dust or vacuum connections, tooling, software or controls support, commissioning and any repairs identified during inspection. A lower purchase price can become more expensive if removal or installation is unusually complex.
Questions to ask the seller
- Is the machine currently connected and available for a powered demonstration?
- What is included with the sale, and what tooling, accessories or support equipment is excluded?
- Are manuals, backups, software licenses or service records available?
- Who is responsible for disconnecting, loading and rigging?
- When must the machine be removed, and are there site-access constraints?
If you own similar equipment, submit it to iBiD for review. If you are still searching, use the Machinery Wanted form to describe the machine and timing you need.
